POSITION SUMMARY

The Marketing Assistant is a part-time, short-term employee. S/he will work within The Nature Conservancy’s Marketing Resource Center-Central US Region. S/he will contribute to the implementation of marketing and media plans in support of the Conservancy’s work in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota. S/he will be asked to create and post content for social media including Facebook and Twitter, e-newsletters, online web content and other marketing products. S/he will also help update the Conservancy’s photo archive and provide event support as needed.

The Marketing Assistant reports to the MRC-Central Director in Minneapolis. S/he will at times be directed to work with Conservancy staff and partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Marketing Assistant will perform various administrative tasks, including some or all of the following:

  1. Develop and post draft social media content for Facebook and Twitter by collaborating with Conservancy staff and drawing upon Conservancy background information and documents including nature.org.
  2. Develop and post for the Conservancy’s “Great Places” monthly electronic newsletter by contributing story ideas and drafting and posting copy.
  3. Assist in the development of news releases by interviewing Conservancy staff and drawing upon provided background information and documents.
  4. Assist in the development of web content by writing draft copy. Potential projects include updating web pages on Conservancy preserves and project areas and creating new content for special pages.
  5. Update the Conservancy’s photo archive by scanning slides and entering metadata.
  6. Assist in providing marketing support for events on behalf of the Conservancy’s Minnesota program.
  7. Assist with various tasks in support of the Conservancy’s marketing and media relations efforts as assigned by Marketing Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Does not supervise any staff, but may help plan and direct the work of volunteers or interns;

  • Duties are performed according to instructions or established practices; supervisor will resolve any problems or questions;

  • Maintain limited financial responsibility, which may include processing invoices or creating travel expense reports;

  • May purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget and in consultation with supervisor;

  • May serve as a team member for assigned work teams;

  • Work overtime, as needed; and

  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Social media experience

  • High school diploma plus 1 year experience or equivalent combination;

  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people; and

  • Experience writing, editing, and proofreading written materials.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed or enrolled in college or university in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Related field;

  • News-writing experience for a college publication or a professional media outlet is preferred

  • Experience or passion for working in a mission driven organization that protects and restores lands and waters

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with supervisors and co-workers

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Facebook

  • Experience using Twitter and Adobe Photoshop is a plus
